Project Start is a program that aims to reduce the risks of HIV/STI/hepatitis among individuals returning from correctional facilities. This program serves as a reintegration “bridge” to the society and helps to solve problems faced by participants.

This program offers to recently released individuals the opportunities to develop their personal behavior management and problem solving skills, as well as the ability to identify additional resources for support. Program materials were developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, translated and adapted to Ukrainian context by the USAID’s RESPOND Project. Materials include the Implementation Manual and Facilitator’s Guide.

The Manual is recommended for social workers, psychologists and other specialists working in the field of HIV/STI/hepatitis prevention among people returning from penitentiary facilities.

This skills building program aims to develop control over behavior and develop responsible and safe behavior skills for youth through group work and peer support.

The Street Smart Implementation Manual has been developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The USAID RESPOND project has modified and piloted Street Smart adapting it to the Ukrainian context. It consists of a Facilitator’s Guide and an Implementation Manual.
